A dog’s nutritional needs for short-term recovery immediately after strenuous activity are different than the nutrition that comes from a performance dog food that is designed to help with prolonged recovery.
ADK's select carbohydrate restore a critical glucose energy source found in muscles called glycogen, and amino acids from select proteins activate the rebuilding of proteins. RECHARGE contains a targeted blend and proportion of carbohydrates fueled by maltodextrin as its main source, which is the “optimal” carbohydrate source.
Although well-conditioned dogs increasingly rely on fat metabolism on successive days of exercise, muscle and liver glycogen stores still contribute to overall performance and support the periodic intense bursts of speed needed to compete. A dog having depleted glycogen stores, or only partially replenished stores, will definitely realize an impact on the next day’s performance.
Several studies have examined the benefits of post-exercise maltodextrin supplementation in dogs that perform prolonged exercise. Dogs that were given 1.5 to 2.0 g maltodextrins/kg body weight post-exercise were able to recover, on average, about 50% of pre-exercise glycogen stores within 4 hours and about 85% of pre-exercise glycogen within 24 hours, while dogs fed but not supplemented recovered less than 40% of their pre-exercise glycogen after 24-hours. Further studies confirmed the ability of maltodextrin to enhance plasma glucose levels.
This product is to be used for running on successive days only.
IF a rest day is given, glycogen levels will return to normal levels.
Directions:
1/3 to 1/2 cup per 50lbs of body weight to be given in room temperature water within 30 minutes following exercise, preferably 15 to 20 minutes following cooldown period. Normal feeding can be given an hour or more later.
RECHARGE is not to be given or fed with food or high fat supplements.
