                    " Geez they don't look like Husky's, why?  "
There are many different sled dogs in the World, a lot of the Classic Siberian Husky's are still used but there are many others used today that are probably more popular:  mixes or hybrids of husky and various hounds that work very well and are very sociable and athletic. Some with different amounts of fur depending on what they do most.

There are no dogs on chains here, not one.

Here at Adirondack Kennel we take pride in

upbringing and training dogs to listen when

called, run around loose, be loose off the

truck
handled by all riders who come for a

ride and
loose run around the house at least

daily
most of the year and this is in addition to loose running around with the

ATV of course plus later on conditioning.

This requires tremendous amounts of time when they are young pups and by the

time the
dogs reach full maturity at 2 yrs old, they listen quite well. YES that's right

you will often
see Roy at his selected training site(s) with the vast majority of his

dogs LOOSE at his
truck mingling, loosening up for the trip or cooling down which

ALL athletes need.
We
don't believe in dogs being tied out their entire lives. They

need to be dogs and enjoy life
other than what they already love to do.  We don't

have favoritism here, ALL dogs get
loose and come inside.

Picture
It is nearly impossible to detect small injury or

lameness when a dog rarely gets off a tether or

tried
to the truck; especially while traveling on

the road, a
dog allowed to mingle off the truck

loose will be a
lot easier to assess for

injury/lameness.

Are there ever problems with dogs taking off or not listening for some reason or

another?  Sure, it happens from time to time but we will continue to do this, its

what the dogs need and deserve and continually learning for the mushers and

handlers, this is what TRAINING DOGS and having total loyalty is all about with

human and canine interaction and TRUST.

ADK uses modern kennels consisting of outdoor/indoor kennels with Three,

sometimes Four dogs if one is a pup with their 300 square feet living quarters.

Dogs are out of the elements yet still have the ambient temperatures so they will be acclimated.

They can come and go at their own will inside to get

shade,
drink, sleep, lounge or whatever they choose.

You won't find husky's here.

Picture
What you WILL find is a uniqueness not

found anywhere else. WE have some

unique sled dog hounds here. We also, of

course have proven sled dog genetics from

top performing kennels in Alaska and

Europe.

Fall Training.

Picture
Late Fall training consists of the utilization of

ATV for safety.  It is very important to utilize the

engines gears so the dogs are not pulling dead

weight, but rather the same relative resistance as

they would be on snow runners.

In Summer, the dogs swim and

roam free on 5 acre fenced in yard and also go on

walks and ATV excursions loose with us. Most

Summer and early Fall months are non-invasive

(no pulling) to increase cardiovascular health

ovoid injury later on when we start pulling

routine.

Adirondack Kennel starts all our pups out early on in life so we always have well behaved dogs which are able to run loose both here at home, on the road or at the various training sites. Young pups learning from "Dad" and later on from the other adults.

It is vital to have young pups learn at early ages what is expected and what is not tolerated and to simply be pups.
